April 20, 1755
My name is Donovan Mcnabb. I am a free African American fighting in the war for the British. I am not British but do live in the British colony of Pennsylvania. Today I have finally been allowed to join the army by General Edward Braddock. I am ready and prepared to fight for my country now after being enslaved all my life.Originally I was not allowed to join the army to fight as I would have liked do to.I am able to now because of the fact that I am an free African American and they have laws that do not allow me to carry firearms and be in the militia. Thankfully our leader General Edward Braddock found a loophole in the 1723 Virginia law to allow me in as batman.

Today I heard that George Washington's fort Fort Necessity has been attacked and captured by the French. Many of our soldiers were either wounded, killed, or captured by the French before they were forced to surrender. So I have decided to join the militia to do my part to help my country in the war that I feel will begin due to this battle. Many of my friends and neighbors are also going to join the militia. So banned together our forces will hopefully be great enough to defeat the French.

I have been in the militia for a month now under my leader General Edward Braddock, I am preparing to go to battle at Fort Duquesne. I am kind of scared of battle considering that I have no weapon because I am an african american and am not aloud but am ready to do my part in the fight. The only thing I am really worried about is the fact that General Braddock doesn't seem to know much about frontier fighting I am worried that maybe his fighting styles may prove inferior to the opposed veteran generals on the French side who have more experience fighting on the new frontier.

Today as we walked through the woods towards Fort Duquesne we were ambushed by the French and be specific. It was a bloody and a hard fight battle where we ended up being forced to retreat. The enemy was sneaky and hard to hit because they were repeatedly jumping out of nowhere and ducking behind trees to take our men down. We have some five hundred casualties as opposed to the enemy who suffered only about fifty according to our scouts. Even General Braddock was wounded in battle. Our numbers are down enough that they have actually decided to allow me to carry firearms. So if attacked again, I will now be well equiped to fight my hardest to win.

Our Leader and my personal friend Edward Braddock has died to day after our battle at fort duquesne and our troops are wounded demoralized. I just wish they would let the other African American men that would like to join the army join. We are in even more desperate need of troops after our last battle we need to have them waiting at our disposal. If only they would just forget about the possibility of slaves having an insurrection against there owners and let them fight to help save our land.

After many years of fighting the War is finally over. Who have won! Apparently they are as tired of fighting over in Europe as we are here. So now after nine long years they have signed a treaty, the Treaty of Paris. The best thing about the Treaty of Paris is that it has almost completely removed the French from the new world. Even though the Spanish are still here. We know own all the French land east of the Mississippi River.
